Art Stage Jakarta

News

Art Stage Jakarta, Indonesia’s first premium art fair of international format, is set to welcome art collectors from all over the world to experience and witness the diverse and vibrant Indonesian art scene. The Fair will take place from 5 to 7 August 2016 at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel.

As Southeast Asia’s largest art scene and market, Indonesia is a crucial pillar and partner in developing Singapore as an international art centre. As a sister fair to Art Stage Singapore, Art Stage Jakarta will thus complement the Singapore fair as a boutique art fair focusing predominantly on content from Indonesia. With the Jakarta fair, Art Stage Singapore will also be able to tap into the resource of influential Indonesian collectors to strengthen ties with this dynamic and dedicated group of collectors. Art Stage Jakarta will thus bolster Art Stage Singapore’s position as Southeast Asia’s international flagship contemporary art fair and as a platform that brings together the different Southeast Asian markets.

Art Stage Jakarta 2016 will present 50 galleries from Indonesia and beyond. In addition to the participation of all of Indonesia’s top galleries, the inaugural edition of Art Stage Jakarta 2016 will also include renowned international galleries from Asia and Europe. As the country’s exclusive boutique art fair, Art Stage Jakarta is strongly supported by the leading Indonesian collectors with their presence on the Art Stage Jakarta Board of Art Patrons and Board of Young Collectors. This show of support by the collectors is further reinforced by a curated museum-like exhibition of artworks to be presented at the Fair from the collection of six of Indonesia’s top collectors and members of the Fair’s Board of Art Patrons.

“During Art Stage Jakarta 2016, the top collectors will be opening up their collections for viewing, as well as lending works for a never-before-seen curated exhibition on Indonesian modern art. Art Stage Jakarta will be the window to the unique world of Indonesian collectors and will offer a juxtaposition of the best of Indonesia’s modern and contemporary art with that from Southeast Asia, greater Asia and the West,” says Mr Lorenzo Rudolf, Founder and President, Art Stage Jakarta.

Singaporean galleries participating in Art Stage Jakarta 2016 include Art Porters, Element Art Space, Fost Gallery, Gajah Gallery, Intersections Gallery, Linda Gallery, Galerie Michael Janssen, Mizuma Gallery, Ota Fine Arts, Pearl Lam Galleries, Galerie Sogan & Art and Yeo Workshop.

Intersections Gallery will present artist June Lee Yu Juan (b. 1988), who lives and works in Singapore. June Lee Yu Juan has a diploma in Fine Art with a major in Chinese ink painting from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Singapore and a Bachelor from the University of Tasmania. In 2015, during her participation in Art Paris Art Fair, her work was noticed and praised in the French newspaper “Le Monde” and in 2016 in the Business Times in Singapore. She has collectors in Singapore, Canada, France, and Luxembourg.

Trained in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, June Lee Yu Juan is concerned with the diminishing stature of Chinese ink painting and culture and the desensitization of today’s youth towards their own ethnicity, culture, and roots. Revisiting the Chinese ink medium, she strives to translate the vast culture of Chinese art and literature into a contemporary language. June easily moves from one medium to the other and challenges herself by developing new techniques like in her series of photograms.
