Final preparations are underway for the fifth edition of the Asia Contemporary Art Show, which opens with an invitation-only VIP Collectors Preview on Thursday October 2nd and runs through to Sunday evening October 5th on four floors at the Conrad Hong Kong. From Singapore, two galleries will participate: Orient Painting, and White Space Art Asia.
The Show’s theme for 2014 is ‘Bringing a World of Art to Hong Kong.’ Artworks on show include original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography, and range from those by celebrated artists with a proven history of auction and secondary market sales, to interesting emerging artists.
“In the former category, we are delighted to present works by leading Japanese artists Yayoi Kusama and Yoshio Yoshimura; famed Korean artist Yoo Sun Tai; Andy Warhol and Keith Haring from the USA; Banksy, Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake from the United Kingdom; and China’s Zhao Kai Lin and Ling Jian,” said Director of the Asia Contemporary Art Show, Mark Saunderson.
“Equally important are the works by emerging artists from countries as diverse as China, Vietnam, Thailand, Russia, Spain, Italy, Australia, the USA and Canada, plus of course the best of Hong Kong’s home-grown talent,” he added. “With the high rents in Hong Kong, it is difficult these days for galleries to take risks or invest in emerging artists. So we focus on finding new works by up-and-coming artists from all over Asia and the world, and bringing them to Hong Kong. “In October, we are delighted to present over 2,500 works of art from 18 countries, and to welcome some 50 artists to the Show – art buyers and collectors enjoy the interaction with the creative forces behind some of the works.”
Organisers of the event, Asia Contemporary Art Ltd, also own Hong Kong’s largest art website, www.asiacontemporaryart.com. The site complements and adds value to the two annual shows, giving visitors access to the art continuously throughout the year. “The website now features 650 artists and 2,300 artworks from 150 galleries,” explains Saunderson. “Collectors and art lovers can browse and buy from the site before, during and after our two shows in Spring and Fall, and can register for “Art Alerts” to receive regular updates when new works are available.”
