“ :)” is Y2Arts’ first group show to be held in 2020 in line with the Singapore Art Week, featuring an incredible selection of artworks by artists from China, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

🙂 a well-known symbol in today’s digital age, plays the theme of Y2Arts’ opening art-show featuring works by the gallery’s and Premium Pages’ represented artists.

Smiley faces are heavily utilized to emphasize mood and attitude; with enough power to skew the entire tone of a text conversation. They represent the fine line between a friendly request or an aggressive demand, and even, true thought or sarcasm.

As a reflection to real world events, the smiley face has evolved to taking upon different forms in order to express a greater variety of emotions. They are well comprehended and dispersed especially in the meme-culture of the internet where users are consistently blending popular images with short, witty captions to adequately express their opinion and feelings towards particular subjects.

Ruminating heavily on humour and comic relief as a form of social commentary and critique; the show will feature artists and works that incorporate comedy, satire, and intersecting ideas. The artworks reference many familiar symbols and incorporates dark humour that brings visibility to today’s societal commentary.
