“A Beauty Centre” (ABC) is visual artist and sculptor Yeo Chee Kiong’s most ambitious and largest site-specific installation project to date. Featuring 3 major series of his sculptural works that are remixed and reinterpreted for NAFA’s gallery space, ABC exists as a constructed social space that is both physical and virtual, inviting interaction and discussion about the idea of beauty in today’s modern, urban, human world. Collaborating with Yeo are composer-musician, Dr Joyce Koh and Glasgow-based performance artist Ruth Barker. Both artists will present sound and video works as part of the opening event as well as rollout a series of workshops that will lend resonance and interpretive room to this unique, visual art project. Yeo is an alumnus of NAFA and Glasgow School of Art, UK. He received the Young Artist Award in 2006 and has gained outstanding recognition for his practice since winning the Grand prize in the inaugural APB Foundation Signature Art Prize for his National Museum installation “A Day without Trees” in 2008.
