Livia and Marc Straus
Renowned collectors and museum founders Drs. Marc and Livia Straus will share their insights on collecting art, investment strategies and more in an afternoon talk on 23 January 2016. Hailing from New York, Marc and Livia have been collecting contemporary art passionately since age twenty. They were named one of the “The Top 100 Collectors in America” in Art & Antiques and their world-class collection has traveled to many museums. More than collectors, they have lectured numerous times to museum audiences, MFA programs and private banking institutes such as Credit Suisse and HSBC – specifically on how to build a strong collection, how art fares against other assets and how to optimise the return. The couple run a monthly art criticism class and have curated close to a hundred museum and gallery exhibitions.

Jeff Koons
With an incredible eye for discovering new talent, evident from their early acquisitions of many important artists the likes of Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Dan Flavin, Gilbert & George, Robert Gober, and most recently Jeffrey Gibson, they have played a role in cultivating the careers of many successful artists to date. In 2002, they founded a public non-profit museum, Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) in Peekskill, New York. The once impoverished community has greatly edified since its inception, now with a thriving waterfront. In 2011, Marc Straus opened a commercial gallery in the Lower East Side, New York, representing 17 artists from 10 different countries. With its diversity and track record of successful shows, MARC STRAUS Gallery is firmly rooted as one of the most established galleries in the city.
Together with Matthias and Tiffany Arndt of ARNDT Gallery, the talk aims to bring fresh perspectives from the West and a wellspring of tips, anecdotes and wisdom.
