A Day In The Country is a solo exhibition of miniature paintings and hand-coloured vintage photographs conceptualised by Udaipur-based American artist, Waswo X. Waswo.
The artist team of Waswo X. Waswo, third generation Rajasthani hand-colourist Rajesh Soni, and miniaturist R. Vijay present an exhibition that is on the surface whimsical, yet holds an underlying theme of ecological warning.
A Day In The Country takes us on a foreigner’s journey into the fields and landscapes of rural India, where he encounters people, meditates in tranquility, and perpetually photographs with his camera. Yet, things never go quite as planned. It heavily rains during the foreigner’s hopeful meditations, a group of bulls charge while he photographs, and the landscapes he seeks to appreciate succumbs to the woodcutter’s axe.
