A Decade Apart / Together presents two groups of young Singaporean artists – three from the 1980s and three from the 1990s. The show aims to pose the following debate / dialogue: What is the significance of a decade apart? How do two generations dissect personal artistic references and build on their own styles? Why is it important to cross-examine them together? The selected artists from the 1980s (Genevieve Chua, Hu Qiren and Melissa Tan) will present works with interests in abstraction, photography and mythology.
In addition, the selected artists from the 1990s (Meng Ju Lin, Odelia Tang and Ian Tee) will present works based on themes of textual intervention, pain negotiation and vulnerability.
A short film documentary (directed by Singaporean multi disciplinary artist, Kray Chen) will supplement the show, providing context to each artwork & each artist’s broader practice. It will be roughly 8-9 mins long.
