Linda Gallery Singapore will present a pair of solo exhibitions by twin Chinese artists: A Passage Through Mountain Void by Yin Zhaohui and Dual Presence by Yin Zhaoyu.
Featuring over 60 recent works — spanning oil and acrylic on canvas, ink and color on silk, and collage — these two presentations bring together the brothers’ distinctive visual idioms within a shared space, one that explores the nature of painting, the experience of perception, and the spirituality of two divergent journeys.
The complexity of contemporary art arises from the relentless interplay and friction among systems. Painting no longer follows a single, predetermined trajectory; shifting environments, techniques, and ways of seeing generate fresh visual possibilities.
The twin, Yin Zhaohui and Yin Zhaoyu, both 49, came after their elder brother, acclaimed Chineses artist Yin Zhaoyang, graduating from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing, China) in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Trained in oil painting, they both began with figurative experience, yet have since diverged into two distinct directions.
Contrary to the popular assumption that twins are seemingly united in thought and feeling, Yin Zhaohui and Yin Zhaoyu possess sharply contrasting temperaments and creative logic. This dual exhibition powerfully challenges the reductive narrative that has often bound them together. Instead of sharing a single title as in their previous joint shows, the two artists now present separate yet intrinsically linked exhibitions, which marks their first appearance in Singapore.
