Flowers, as emblems, signify many things. In Teck Lim’s series of works titled Ahead of Time, he presents a body of photography-based artworks intricately connected to 30 interviews he conducted as part of his research-driven exploration of mortality. Through these works, he employs conceptual portraiture, installations, printed images, and performance-based art, often using funeral-like portraits and the floral emblem of the African Tulip as symbolic devices to introduce and engage with this deeply personal theme. In his upcoming showcase, he will present a continuation of the series, exploring emblems imprinted on tissues and other printed media. This new body of work serves as a tribute to his late mother, who has been a central inspiration behind many of his key explorations of mortality.
