Ana Prvački will empty the gallery, presenting a sparsely furnished reading room for her new 135-page full-colour book of ideas and new writing. Along with the book, her exhibition presents a series of simple postures designed to eliminate common physical afflictions arising from overuse, such as stiff neck and tennis elbow. The gallery becomes a space for consideration of the rejuvenating possibilities of reading.
Los Angeles-based artist Ana Prvacki is a specialist in hospitality, having developed participatory projects, short films, publications, and books documenting her research on the subject since 2005, when she started her service oriented company Ananatural Production.
She has been described as a paradox or pharmakon. A pharmakon, as formulated by French philosopher Derrida, can be a remedy, poison, drug, recipe, charm, medicine, substance, spell, artificial colour, or paint. Her catalogues have been described as ‘a mix of Dada, Zen, and Martha Stewart’.
