Tang Contemporary Art Singapore is pleased to announce Armin Boehm’s first ever solo exhibition in Singapore – Armin Boehm: Feast, Restrained Pleasure. Running from 14 December 2024 till 8 January 2025, this exhibition presents a series of Boehm’s striking mixed-media works that challenge viewers to engage with the complexities of human experience, identity, and society. Known for his ability to seamlessly blend personal memories with collective histories, Boehm’s art invites reflection on the tensions between individual and social realities in the modern world.
Through the overlapping of fabrics, papers, and paints, Boehm creates a sensory experience that transcends traditional two-dimensionality, drawing attention to the delicate balance between ‘blur’ and ‘clarity’ within the human condition. His works evoke the shifting dynamics of memory, history, and identity, revealing the fractures and reconfigurations of social narratives in a contemporary context. The interplay of personal and collective experiences becomes especially poignant as Boehm uses collage and abstraction to magnify private memories into universal reflections on social change.
The exhibition is defined by its powerful visual language, which invites the viewer to explore the hidden stories within Boehm’s intricate compositions. Symbols such as empty banquet cups, broken masks, swaying petals, and overlapping facial features offer subtle critiques of power relations, social divisions, and individual isolation. The recurring motif of the porcupine, drawn from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, signals the fractures and reconstructions of identity, urging deeper contemplation of contemporary social and political landscapes.
