Art-Inspired Dance, A Performance of Chita Natyam

Based on rasa, the concept of Indian aesthetics shared among art, sculpture, music, dance and poetry, the dancers interpret the color and dynamic movement in Anthony Poon’s paintings. Apsaras will be performing a dance titled Skandam. Born from the fiery sparks from the Hindu god Shiva’s third eye, the ever youthful god Skanda is associated with the colour red. Dancers inspired by the colour in the painting Red Chroma Waves by Anthony Poon will depict the tales of Skanda associated with the hue, including his birth from the red fire sparks, his rage in destroying the evil demon to save the heavens and earth, and his blessing his devotees with love and grace.
