Art Places recalls some places in Singapore where art brewed. Presented in this exhibition are over 90 photographs, shot by Koh Nguang How, an arts researcher and photographer known for his extensive photo-documentation of local art happenings including art performances, exhibitions and events. They also cast new light on spaces that were not necessarily built as art places but nonetheless functioned as art sites and acting as strong witnesses to the possibility of art taking place anywhere beyond conventional art spaces, thus encapsulating the spirit of art-making.
The exhibition also recounts strong bonds and lively exchange of ideas between artists in Singapore and other countries. The photographs show art as engagement and process: through audience interaction during the happenings, and through friendship with fellow artists in the international community.
