ArText is a writing and design mentorship programme that is an initiative of PRESSPLAY 2016, a youth arts festival organised by the National Library Board.
We have just ended our open call for writers and are now looking for aspiring designers to interpret their writings into text-based art. From now till 5 December 2015, ArText is having an open call for designers keen on a very short mentorship programme with Bryan Angelo Lim, designer and partner at qu’est-ce que c’est.
During the 4 sessions of mentorship on 9, 16, 23, 30 January 2016, held at the Central Public Library (12pm-2pm), you will be interpreting prose and poetry into text-based art like typography or visual poetry. You will be introduced to Expressive Typography, Principles of Design, Type Classification, and the different movements in type art.
Ideally, you should be familiar with Adobe Illustrator and be able to bring your own laptop with the software installed during the mentorship programme. However, if you do not have any design training or have no knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, we are also open to taking a more analogue approach by accomplishing the work in a collage, or cut and paste method. What you would need would simply be a laptop with Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint installed.
If you are keen, please send in 3 images of your works together with the following information by 5 December 2015 to Joey Chin at joey_chin@nlb.gov.sg:
1) Name:
2) Address:
3) Email address:
4) IC number:
5) In 100 word or less, why you would like to be part of ArText (design)
When: 28 Sep - 5 Dec 2015,
