Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities celebrates our shared Southeast Asian heritage through the beautiful world of batik in the region. Featuring over 100 pieces from overseas and local lenders, including rarely seen pieces from the National Collection, the exhibition will tell the story of making, wearing, and trading batik.
The exhibition casts a spotlight on the innovations behind this timeless art form, taking visitors on a journey from batik’s traditional roots to contemporary designs, and its significance in fashion in Singapore and the region. From pieces worn by nyonyas in Manado, to a selendang basurek with poetry (pantun) in Jawi and imaginative contemporary pieces by Indonesian batik powerhouse BINhouse, the public will be enthralled by the feast of visual splendour.
