Yaacov Agam, Patrick Rubinstein
‘Beyond the Visible’ Kinetic Art Exhibition brings together two generations of visionary artists, Yaacov Agam, the founding figure of the Kinetic Art movement, and Patrick Rubinstein, one of its boldest contemporary voices, to explore how movement reshapes art, perception, and the viewer’s role within them. Featuring a total of 50 paintings and sculptures from both artists, the exhibition examines the transformation of visual experience itself, the shift from static observation to dynamic engagement.
Agam, widely regarded as one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century, revolutionised the way audiences interact with art. His works are in perpetual motion, existing not as fixed images but as encounters that change with the angle of vision and the passage of time. A pioneer in creating “visual music,” Agam’s oeuvre weaves together spirituality, geometry, and color to stir what he once described as “perpetual becoming.” His pieces are held in major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou, and the Guggenheim Museum, and have influenced generations of artists seeking to merge intuition and science, order and chaos.
Agam’s radical departure from the static canvas finds a resonant counterpart in Rubinstein’s kinetic compositions, which fuse pop culture and optical illusion. Rubinstein’s signature three-view works, at once figurative, abstract, and transformative, extend Agam’s enquiries into perception through a distinctly 21st-century lens, merging precision, color, and the viewer’s physical presence to complete each artwork’s meaning.
