Are you a photographer or image-based visual artist looking to tell stories with more depth and meaning? Taking place in conjunction with the 8th edition of our Women in Film & Photography Showcase, artists and experienced educators Amrita Chandradas and Aparna Nori have crafted a short and intensive masterclass programme designed to guide you through the art of visual storytelling using photography — with a focus on developing your own photo book.
Through group discussions, one-on-one feedback, creative prompts and references, participants will dive into the craft of using photography as a narrative tool, learn how to sequence their images for emotional impact, and create a prototype of their own photo book. Participants will also explore editing techniques, refine their visual voice, and collaborate in a supportive, discursive space designed to broaden their narrative and conceptual thinking.
Who can apply?
Due to the limited number of spots, interested image-based artists will have to submit an application detailing the project they would like to work on during the masterclass. This could be an ongoing body of work or a strong outline of an idea.
The workshop is open to emerging or professional photographers from Singapore who want to explore the photo book format as a medium of personal expression or documentary practice.
The proposed work must relate to the theme of this year’s Women in Film & Photography Showcase: ‘What We Carry’.
Submission deadline 17 October 2025, 2359hrs
Selection results: Submissions will be reviewed by the instructors. Participants will be informed of their successful application by 22 Oct 2025.
Participants are to bring a minimum of 40 to 50 of their own images for the workshop, along with text and any other supporting materials that are relevant to their proposed work.
