The exhibition, ‘By Your Side’ explores themes of nostalgia, longing, love and courage. Revisiting the fleeting moments we go through in our childhood, it takes the viewer on a journey through multiple visual narratives that express emotions both from the self and through relationships.

As adults we often long for our childhoods as a time of innocence, when life was simpler and easier to navigate. This exhibition is an exploration of these nostalgic feelings as they relate to each artist’s own childhood memories and relationships with closer ones.

By Your Side brings together the work of three artists: Bijutsu Taro, Cheong Yoon, and Tingky. Their artistic styles are diverse, but they each share an emotional connection to their childhood experiences. These pieces are evocative of memories that seem to come from another time, but are nonetheless universal— a time when there was no distinction between what was real and what was imaginary. It is this sense of wonder that makes these works so powerful: the ability to transport viewers back in time, to be able to imagine themselves as children again with all their innocence intact.

Through their individual perspectives, the artists reflect upon our capacity for empathy with the human condition: its fragility, its resilience and its capacity to love.
