Hands for Hope Asia, a charitable organisation that aims to help women and children at risk in Singapore and the Philippines, will hold its inaugural ‘Canvas for Hope’ art exhibition from 16-30 July 2015. A charity auction will be held on 30 July 2015, in celebration of Singapore’s golden jubilee.
The exhibition will showcase more than 25 artworks of prominent and emerging contemporary artists from Singapore, the Philippines and other countries. All proceeds from sales of these artworks will be donated to Star Shelter in Singapore, as well as Preda Foundation in the Philippines.
This initiative was conceived by a group of six friends who first met in a Filipino martial arts school in Singapore a couple of years ago. Thinking of how to celebrate SG50, they decided that the best way would be to give back to Singapore.
Two of the founding members are Singaporean, while three are from the Philippines and one from Australia.
Prominent artists include AG Sano, a well-known painter and activist in the Philippines who is passionate about street art and environmental conservation. The Singapore-based artists are Sheau Huay, who specialises in Traditional Chinese painting, and Ingela Johansson, a Norwegian artist who has exhibited her artworks around the world.
