Carey Ngai, Golden Rays
In conjunction with the 36th UOB Painting of the Year competition, UOB is launching an exhibition by Mr Carey Ngai, 2016 UOB Painting of the Year winner, at the UOB Art Gallery on 23 May 2017.
Titled ‘A Moment in Time’, the exhibition is a representation and recollection of objects and places as seen through the eyes of Mr Carey Ngai. Created in the style of classical realism, Mr Ngai’s lifelike artworks transport the viewer to the images and landscapes that inspired his pieces. The exhibition features six ink sketches and 21 oil-on-canvas paintings, including Mr Ngai’s award-winning artwork from the 2016 UOB Painting of the Year competition.
Mr Ngai was presented the 2016 UOB Painting of the Year (Singapore) award in the established artist category for his oil-on-canvas painting titled ‘Industry 2.0 III’. He is a three-time UOB Painting of the Year winner, having previously won the competition in 1998 and 2001 as well.
Since winning the UOB Painting of the Year award in November 2016, Mr Ngai has exhibited his paintings at the UOB Art Space @ Art Stage Singapore 2017, alongside 14 other UOB Painting of the Year alumni artists from across Southeast Asia.
