National Service (NS) has anchored our nation’s peace and security since its introduction in 1967. To commemorate 50 years of NS (NS50), the Singapore Art Society launched the “Commemorating NS50 Through Art” initiative at the ION Art Gallery today. The initiative comprises a series of exhibitions featuring around 130 pieces of artworks over a spectrum of mediums, such as oil paintings, bronze sculptures, and Chinese calligraphy.
The President of the Singapore Art Society, Mr Terence Teo, said
The artwork here aims to recognise the hardship and sacrifices by our past and present national servicemen, even in the most mundane of everyday tasks, and strengthen the community’s support for NS. At the same time, it also provided our local artists a platform to challenge themselves and grow in their creative journey.
More than 50 artists from the Singapore Art Society are taking part in this initiative, and their art creations will be exhibited at three locations for public viewing.
