This year, the theme of CinemaWorld Film Festival (CMWFF) 2019, “My Story”, illuminates across each of the 4 curated films – Coureur, Rafaël, 93 Days and ROA. Each film is based upon a true story that is somewhat emblematic of what the world is facing at this moment in time. Whether construed as one rooted in personal experience, a historically significant tragedy, a global medical emergency or a humanitarian disaster, each story is ultimately a quest for a greater ideal. And more importantly, viewers are obliged to contemplate what their own ideals and stories are.
In Coureur, it is a story of courage to pursue one’s dreams but also, a reminder that to love oneself is foremost to everything. In Rafaël, it is a story of transcendental love and indestructible faith in the face of callous bureaucracy. In 93 Days, it is a story of medical valour and sacrifice for the greater good of humanity. Lastly, in ROA, it is a story of an ill-guided and ultimately, catastrophic personal quest for validation and redemption.
The festival will kickstart with a pre-screening event of the title film, “Coureur”, followed by a panel discussion at the Oldham Theatre on 26th September 2019.
