Decoding creative process journals: An exhibition by the Faculty of Design

Photo: Courtesy Faculty of Design, 2016.

This exhibition presents creative process journals (CPJs) produced by the Faculty of Design from 2014 to the present. The journals were made by Level 2 and Level 3 students from Diploma and BA(Hons) programmes in Design Communication, Fashion, and Spatial and Product Design. Display furniture, tables and seating encourage consultation and contemplation of the CPJs.

CPJs are design projects in their own right, communicating distinct angles and approaches to design research. They are often encyclopedic, reflecting the myriad ideas and references that influence the design process. Many CPJs can be published. They offer not only critical knowledge about design, but powerfully articulate design ideas. The CPJ acts as a compendium, providing answers to design problems and as well as questions for future investigation.
