Doraemon’s Time-Travelling Adventures in Singapore

Doraemon pays a visit to the National Museum of Singapore

Everyone’s favourite cat type robot is making his way to the National Museum of Singapore (NMS) for Doraemon’s Time-Travelling Adventures in Singapore from 31 October to 27 December 2020. Visitors can look forward to rediscovering Singapore and meeting Doraemon, a beloved character many of us grew up with, through photo opportunities within the museum’s grounds and specially-designed collectibles.

Easily one of the most famous doors in Japanese manga and anime, the Anywhere Door can be found alongside lovable Doraemon statues across the museum’s front lawn. Another of Doraemon’s classic gadgets, the Time Machine, invites you to travel through both time and space. To ensure a safe environment for everyone, the installations are applied with self-disinfecting coating and cleaned regularly. We would like to remind visitors to refrain from touching the installations and to continue to observe safe management measures as well as good personal hygiene during their visit. Don’t forget to look out for Doraemon’s Gadgets of the Future, where visitors can view some of his fascinating gadgets including the Doc-in-a-Box and Shrink Ray.

Visitors will also be able to discover some Gadgets of the Past in a temporary showcase towards the end of the Singapore History Gallery. As part of our Collecting Contemporary Singapore initative to broaden our contemporary collection, the museum would like to hear from the public on the classic gadgets of their time – these can be shared by tagging us on social media with the hashtag #MySGGadget and pictures of iconic science and technology items. Visitors can try their hand at designing their own gadget in the Redesign an Artefact activity, based on real artefacts displayed at the museum.

This campaign also invites visitors to explore stories of Singapore through fascinating artefacts in the museum’s galleries and our National Collection. Launching on 31 October as well is a fully online trail by the museum, Let’s jalan-jalan!, which visitors can enjoy from the comfort of their home and rediscover fun facts about 14 neighbourhoods around Singapore through an “island-wide” hunt, through https://www.doraemonxnms.sg/mediapath/.
