This exhibition features works by the BA(Hons) Product Design students, featuring the outcomes of three design briefs:
Construct Learn Play presents the opportunity to question and conceive kinesthetic solutions that incite participation and involvement beyond visual capabilities. Each product is a toy that helps develop spatial and situational awareness. Using wood as a medium, designers are prompted to acquire knowledge of this materiality such as its manufacturing processes, properties, composition, potential and limitations. Through this, each product creatively explores, manipulates and re-envisions wood in a manner offering new insights and novel impressions of the material.
Products from Chef’s Table reflect the chef’s philosophy and identity through its rationale, design, detail and exploration of material. Each product comes in three different sizes while taking into consideration functionality and materiality. This project offers the opportunity to delve into the designs that precede social change.
Acoustica challenges designers to identify novel outcomes to enhance the way in which people live, work and play. The designers identified a specific context and explored the application of an object that addresses sound pollution. The designs challenge set perceptions and are unconventional in its application within the selected context, addressing market needs in a creative manner.
