“East Meets West” is an unusual artistic showcase of Chinese Ink Wash Paintings and Western Oil Paintings by Asian Artists. Like many of her other influences, Singapore is also melting pot of eastern and western art. Over the years, we have witnessed oriental ink and western painting germinate and establish themselves on our local soil; in many cases even flourishing. Both art forms are rooted in their own traditions, whilst innovating and learning from each other at the same time.
“East Meets West” brings together close to 80 pieces of artwork from four Chinese ink artists, Dr Cheah Thien Soong from Malaysia, calligrapher Mr Lim See Youg from Singapore, Professor Chen Hui and Professor Jia Youfu from China, as well as four Western oil painting artists, Mr Koeh Sia Yong and Mr Tan Choh Tee from Singapore, and Professor Chen Junde and Mr Xu Zhiguang from China.
Held in conjunction with Heng Artland’s 33rd anniversary, “East Meets West” will run from 22 July through 29 July 2017 at the ION Art gallery.
