Enmoving is the last out of four of Grey’s programmes for ‘Proposal for Novel Ways of Being’, featuring a series of unique silver gelatin prints created with improvisational darkroom techniques using found organic matter such as rocks, roots and earth. Referencing cosmological events and geological phenomena, it seeks to suggest the presence of larger forces beyond our individual lives that can be intuited with deepening interiority. Newly installed to the changing conditions of natural light in the Grey Projects gallery, the work is an invitation to reflect on the connections between the human and the non-human, and between one another. Grounded in the materiality of the mundane, these prints are as much about the rich visual surface of the silver and the interiority of the image-world that is depicted, becoming sites through which Hui Hsien probes the limits of our consciousness and the interconnectivity of our para- and ur-linguistic awareness.
