Ex libris Singapore is an exhibition of bookplates from the library of ten Singapore-based artists, curated by Daniela Beltrani. The participating artists are: Ezzam Rahman, Fiona Koh, Joshua Yang, Justin Lee, Michelle Yu, S. Raoul, Sandra Lee, Shubigi Rao, Wang Mo, Zaki Razak.
Since the precious manuscripts of the Middles Ages, artists have been involved with handwritten or printed paper in many different ways. More in particular, since Albrecht Dürer in the early 1500s artists have lent their talent for the creation of ex libris, a.k.a. bookplates, to graciously state the ownership of the books.
In this unique exhibition, the curator invited nine Singapore-based artists to find inspiration from a book they own to create an ex libris for the book itself and thus allowing ownership and authorship to reflect one another. The project offers an insight into the diverse connections between visual art and written words.
This exhibition is sponsored by artsfund and National Arts Council.
