Everybody loves a little risk. There’s a thrill in stepping into the unknown—the quickened pulse, the held breath—and emerging safely transformed. Risk unsettles us, nudges us beyond the familiar and opens doors to the unexpected.
Flipside, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, is built on that spirit. We work with circus artists who perform breathtaking physical feats, and storytellers who mine their personal histories with honesty and humour. Our audiences take a leap too, choosing curiosity over certainty and arriving ready to be surprised.
But risk exists because of trust. Beneath every leap and catch is a web of care between artists, technicians and crew. Years of training sharpen instinct into assurance; when they jump, they know they will land.
From 29 May to 7 Jun 2026, Flipside invites you into worlds that are daring, playful and deeply human. At the Esplanade Theatre Studio, Gravity & Other Myths’ A Simple Space delivers raw, exhilarating acrobatics. In Der Lauf (The Way Things Go) by Les Vélocimanes Associés, audiences help a juggler navigate absurd experiments. Dwayne Lau premieres his first full-length commissioned festival work, Snakes and Ladders!, sharing heartfelt personal stories.
