Chris Huen Sin-Kan: Flowers Wilting in a New Day

“Flowers Wilting in a New Day” is a solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist, Chris Huen. This exhibition marks Huen’s first solo presentation in Singapore and South East Asia, featuring seven of his latest paintings bearing his signature airy brush strokes. Huen, who paints his surrounding environment entirely from memory, explains that the act of recalling a memory allows him to recognize what had left a strong impression in his mind and to identify what had been forgotten. Painting in this way becomes a process whereby fragments of memories are carefully reconstructed by Huen atop the canvas surface. The title of this exhibition describes Huen’s reflection on the ‘new normal’ of the Covid-19 pandemic. Regardless of how the situation develops, our lives need to go on, and the cycles of life will continue.
