FurnitureOrigins aims to showcase the fruitful outcomes of an annual collaborative workshop between the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). During the pandemic outbreak, a research-led approach was introduced to the project brief for students to conceptualise a speculative proposal that explored the idea of ‘Wayfinding’—relating to present and future lifestyles and focusing on assigned F&B and studio sites on both campuses. Over a semester, NAFA students worked closely with students from KMUTT via online platforms to probe into some of the critical ways in which design can serve as tools and strategies, as well as how technology can be harnessed, to influence communication design for the better future.
