Opera Gallery Singapore presents a solo exhibition of works by Georges Mathieu, on view from 21st October to 14th November 2021. The exhibition will feature a selection of Mathieu’s most important artworks across his artistic career, each of these pieces symbolic of his decades-long oeuvre.
Abandoning traditional standards and rejecting preconceived rules, Mathieu established a new and unorthodox paradigm of abstract art known to the art world as Lyrical Abstraction. He emphasised on transferring emotions and uninterrupted thoughts to his work. The dynamic and powerful compositions compel the mind; transporting viewers into Mathieu’s enigmatic realm of pure emotions and endless creative energy.
Mathieu was known for his unconventional methods of executing his paintings, often painting directly on canvas from tubes, thus pioneering the use of Tubism as a technique. Through the use of explosive gestures, delineating lines and strokes, Mathieu portrayed his belief of producing maximum expression by minimum means.
