Ninety years ago, two very young designers, Gio’ Ponti and Tomaso Buzzi, won a national competition for the design of pieces of furniture for an Italian embassy. The aim was to encourage a new Italian furnishing style. Ponti and Buzzi quickly became a point of reference for Italian architecture revolutionizing Italian contemporary design. The exhibition is a tribute to the two architects, showcasing a selection of their most significant drawings for that competition. The exhibit will be enriched by a showcase of some iconic objects and furniture designed by Gio Ponti and still produced and sold worldwide today.
The Exhibition will be preceded by a presentation on “Gio Ponti and the Birth of Italian Design” by the exhibition’s Curator, Dr. Giorgio Forni, Director of the Fondazione Sartirana Arte. The Talk will be moderated by Dr. Alessandro Biamonti, Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano.
