Gothic Modern Nusantara bridges the emotional depth of medieval Gothic with Southeast Asia’s spiritual and cultural richness. Instead of replicating architecture, it emphasises atmosphere—melancholy, transcendence, the unknown—through diverse contemporary artworks. Each artist interprets the Gothic through the lens of Nusantara, utilising various materials and forms. The exhibition prompts reflection on how we engage with history not just through objects, but emotion, asking what Gothic means today and how its themes echo in modern times.
