William Sim, Film Hut - Drunk Monkey in the Tiger's Eyes (2018) watercolour on acid-free paper 40cm x 30cm
Moored and anchored in this tenth edition of the Happiness Private Limited show is a piece that measures 1.4 metres across. Entitled Collectable Happiness, it is the largest artwork William has executed in the watercolour medium. If the last ten years can be described as his odyssey of seeking fulfilment through art, this painting is a portrayal of his allegorical voyage. The painting’s depiction of a fish-shaped trawler with its trailing dragnet is personification of the artist’s self and his quest to find happiness. Seen within its massive hull is a multiplicity of colourful objects, an embodiment of happy memories and experiences amassed along the way, stored and distilled as fuel for the vessel’s pneumatic locomotion.
Sail away with the Merchant of Happiness and revel in the felicity of his offerings! Signature watercolour pieces including 6 mixed media on wood artworks will be exhibited in this grand celebration of William’s decade in art-making at the Visual Arts Centre – a bumper bonanza of new work. In case you’ve only just registered William’s show, this is the third mail in the series, with 14 other works already sent out.
