The Southeast Asian premiere of In Course of The Miraculous interweaves stories behind three mysterious real-life disappearances. These include British mountaineer George Mallory, who went missing while ascending Mount Everest in 1924; artist Bas Jan Ader, who vanished during his 1975 journey across the Atlantic as part of a performance titled ‘In search of the miraculous’; and the 2011 mutiny aboard Chinese fishing trawler Lu Rong Yu no. 2682 that left only a third of its original crew still alive. With a narrative inspired by fables and mythic literature, Cheng Ran reinterprets the title of Ader’s final work, hence reflecting on a paradoxical pursuit of visualising inexplicable or unimaginable parts of history.
The event is presented by LASALLE’s Institute of Contemporary Art Singapore (ICAS) in partnership with The Arts House, as part of The World Precedes the Eye, an affiliate project of Singapore Biennale 2016.
This film is rated M18.
