From Thursday, 19 May to Sunday, 22 May, the Siaw Tao Chinese Seal-Carving Calligraphy & Painting Society and Visual Arts Centre jointly present “Ini Mini Mini Mo”- Siaw Tao painting exhibition and seal carving workshop. Presenting over 50 ‘mini’ square paintings (30 x 30cm) of various themes signature to the participating artists, we invite you to explore and appreciate the showcase of ink paintings by Siaw Tao artists and learn about the royal tradition of Chinese seal carvings during the talk and workshops. 21 May (Sat) 3pm – 6pm: Chinese Seal Carving Workshop (Session I) – Pictorial/Symbols carvings
Participants will be introduced to the art of seal carving in this session. Under the guidance of renowned Siaw Tao artists, participants will explore various symbols and icons, and even learn to simplify pictorial images and outlines! Drawing, composing and creating unique seal designs of their own, participants explore the ancient tradition of seal carving with their own interpretation. Participants will learn and understand the intricacies of the craft, and be taught and shown the skills and techniques of stone carving by the masters. During the workshop, participants will design and engraving their very own seals, and accomplish at least one completed seal at the end of the workshop to bring home. - Loan of all materials and tools to engrave and carve seal
- To make additional seals, Soap Stones may be purchased at a minimal cost (depending on materials, $10 – $25 each)
22 May 2016 (Sun) 3pm – 6pm: Chinese Seal Carving Workshop (Session II) – Name, Chinese/Character carvings
At the second session of this 2 Day workshop, participants will work on designing and creating their own name character carving. Experimenting on various writing styles, formations and compositions of name characters, participants add their personal touch and artistic flair in this advanced design process. A seal carving of your own name is a unique identity – to be used as a signature, and as your individual keepsake. Through the demonstration and step-by-step guidance of the experienced seal carving masters, your own handcrafted name seal comes to perfection. All materials included.*refer to below
