As office workers trawl the buzzing streets of Telok Ayer throughout the golden hour, deep in contemplation over their hour-long commute home, join artist Jason Lim—burdened with a rock delicately balanced on his head—as he begins his hour-long performance art piece, titled Topographies, at Telok Ayer Park from 6.30pm and ends off at Telok Ayer Arts Club at 7.30pm.
Back at the Arts Club, Jason will join arts writer Christine Han in a conversation and Q&A with the artist from 7.30pm to 8.00pm, where you can hear firsthand on his experience in Kjerringøy, the performing live body, and photography in performance.
This is followed by an opening reception from 8.00pm onwards, where you can view the exhibited works on display, purchase his eponymous book, interview the artist and finally… let us ply you with wine.
Topographies is a solo exhibition, publication and opening day performance by Jason Lim that will take place at Telok Ayer Arts Club from 22 May to 11 July. It is the visual maceration of a 10-day residency Lim spent at the Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale in August last year, where he used his body as a prop to showcase natural materials found along Kjerringøy’s unique coastal-alpine landscape. By channeling these deviant depictions into mediums of photography, videography and performance art, Lim reinterprets and reassigns new meanings to them, provoking patrons of the Arts Club into examining their own views of life, mortality and nature.
