Johnny YUNGUT TJUPURRULA – The Last Solo Show

Johnny YUNGUT TJUPURRULA, Soakage Water Site of Ngalpurrunya, Acrylic on Belgian Linen, 91 x 91 cm

Johnny YUNGUT TJUPURRULA – The Last Solo Show, is a collection of 26 recently released works from the estate of the late painter recanting sacred stories of soakage and waterholes sites across the central Tanami desert, where Johnny was born, in the vicinity of Tjangimanta, north-east of the Kiwirrkura community, circa 1930.

Kiwirrkura now houses one the two desert studios for the Papunya Tula Art Cooperative and was the creative hub where this master of the Oldest Art Movement on the planet expressed his ancestral lineage by producing some of the most contemporary and breath-taking oeuvres to have come out of this monumental painting movement.
