Lenggang Kangkong: Down Memory Lane

Self-taught painter Desmond Sim has been painting since 1990. His colourful nyonyas have been a favourite with collectors who appreciate the Peranakan culture and lifestyle.

Throughout the years, Desmond has been keeping back one or two of his paintings from every other show to keep track of his journey as he explored the culture he was born into. It has been an insightful and fruitful journey of many discoveries.

In this current show, Desmond selects some pieces that mark particular milestones in this journey. From one of his first nyonya paintings to his memories of school holiday bungalows by old, sea-front Pasir Ris, to his modern Neo-Nyas series, you will be allowed an insight to the artist and his colourful journey of half a lifetime.
