Lisa Smirnova is a Russian illustrator and artist who “paints” dynamic pieces with her needle and thread. Visitors can look forward to her first exhibition in Singapore, featuring an alluring spread of Lisa’s deft needlework — a smorgasbord of bold coloured threads against every kind of fabric imaginable. Her hand-embroidered pieces have seen a number of successful collaborations with Russian fashion designers, such as her most recent project with Olya Glagoleva’s eco-friendly label GO. Entitled “Artist at Home”, Lisa weaved a magical narrative through a vast array of organic and vintage textiles, creating a captivating world with her delicate stitches.
Lisa’s work is lush and evocative, her rough-hewn hand embroidery giving a sense of dimension and form to her quirky illustrative style. She is inspired by scenes of flora and fauna, and artists or creators she looks up to. Another common thread is her fascination with anatomy and tattooed bodies. Her work has won over 13,700 fans on Instagram alone.
Just for K+, Lisa is creating 6 brand new pieces to mark her first show ever in Singapore. These will be on display together with a collection of her past works. Lisa will also be flying in from Russia for the opening.
