LUKE HENG b. 1987, Non-Place, 2017, Oil on linen, 188 x 165 x 5 cm x 2; 74 x 65 x 2 in. x 2
A development from his previous visual examinations of paintings and castings, Singaporean artist Luke Heng presents a series of new works that tackle the spiritual and literal construction of the non-place. Dealing with ideas of liminality, impermanence, and transcendent space, Heng’s evocations run the gamut from paintings to wax works, and for the first time, a site-specific installation.
This solo exhibition marks the evolution of Heng as he ventures beyond the realms of the (sculptural) two-dimensional, augmenting his practice while still working with oil on linen, wax, and steel. Born in 1987, Heng is interested in the dialectics between painting, object, and picture making. He actively practices art locally and internationally after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2013.
