Confluence Art Space is proud to present Luminosity of Mind, a solo exhibition by Cultural Medallion recipient Tan Choh Tee, one of Singapore’s most esteemed en plein air oil painters. Audiences are invited to experience a curated collection of 18 masterpieces, tracing Tan’s artistic evolution across five remarkable decades, with works representing every era from the 1970s to the present day. Among these are five new paintings created in conjunction with Singapore’s SG60 celebrations, capturing scenes of the nation that Tan painted for the first time in his illustrious career.
Luminosity of Mind draws its name from the Impressionistic sensibility that defines Tan’s practice. Like the Impressionists, Tan is deeply attuned to the transience of light and the emotional resonance of place, favouring poetic expression over strict realism. His paintings reveal a rare ability to reinterpret and transform the familiar, translating everyday scenes into a radiant symphony of colour and atmosphere and illuminating them in a new light.
In 2025, in conjunction with SG60, Tan Choh Tee and Confluence Art Space jointly embarked on a special project to capture scenes of Singapore that the artist had never before depicted in his career. Confluence Art Space proposed a selection of significant sites, which Tan then interpreted through his masterful reimagining of the familiar. This collaboration culminated in the creation of five exceptional canvases.
