Over lunch, you will get the opportunity to meet the artist Maryanto and converse with him about the use of art for social change, and understand his thought process as an artist involved in social activism. This luncheon is held in conjunction with the opening of Maryanto’s second solo exhibition at Yeo Workshop, Story of Space, which runs from 28 March to 31 May 2017.
Maryanto is a landscape artist whose artworks serve as a form of storytelling with the impression of theatrical stage or landscape setting. His inspiration stems from his observation of the physical landscape and its changes brought about by human interference. While depictions of his native Indonesia are identifiable in his paintings, Maryanto believes that these damaged landscapes are common across geographical and political boundaries. Invested in social activism, he believes that his role as an artist is the best way he can contribute by raising awareness about social and political issues and their consequences.
