Magic Moments (20 – 29 April 2018) is Malaysian artist Alex Leong’s first solo exhibition in Singapore, featuring 40 watercolour paintings depicting iconic scenes around the Lion City. Drawing influence from award-winning artists Tan Choon Ghee and Ong Kim Seng, his works seek to enthuse viewers and evoke a sense of familiarity. Elegantly detailed and characterised by precise brushwork, Alex has exquisitely captured honest and everyday interactions seen in communities around Singapore, from children laughing and pedestrians strolling along the streets, to diners enjoying their meals. Inspired by everyday events, mundane as they may seem to the average viewer, he hopes to remind viewers the importance of appreciating and retaining heritage buildings in a fast-paced city whose façade is constantly morphed by rapid technological advances.
