Hatch Art Project will be presenting I Wayan Piki Suyersa’s first solo exhibition in Singapore, Man on Earth.
Man on Earth comprises of several paintings as well as a monumental wall sized painting and a fiberglass installation titled Flowing. The exhibition showcases the artists’ intimate relationship with land and yearning for transcendent states of being.
The artists’ desire is for us to consider this relationship with the earth and to find the similar peace and solace that the artist channels in his painting process. A measure of uncertainty or randomness, at once mysterious and calming, the artist investigates the paintings’ symbolic ability to evoke emotional states, similar to that of worship and in isolation. Throughout the pandemic the artist was reminded that despite our efforts to harness and control nature, this cyclic movement and fight for survival is both fundamentally similar to the painting processes and our greater environmental harmony.
