Ang Ah Tee, London Tower Bridge, acrylic on canvas, 80 x 80 cm, 2015
Masters from Three Generations showcases a range of artworks by local prolific artists namely Ang Ah Tee, Cheong Soo Pieng, Tay Bak Koi, Lim Cheng Hoe, Lim Tze Peng, Chua Ek Kay, Ong Kim Seng, Low Puay Hua, Nai Swee Leng, Lim Leong Seng, Eng Siak Loy, Tan Choh Tee, Ling Yang Chang, Tung Yue Nang and Terence Teo. As graduates of several prestigious art schools, these artists have strong foundations in their art practices and are contemporary icons of local art. In their artistic explorations, they have created their individual styles, venturing beyond tradition.
The oil and acrylic works of Cheong Soo Pieng, Ang Ah Tee, Tay Bak Koi, Eng Siak Loy and Tan Choh Tee will be on display. Through the textural strokes in abstract expressionism, it is evident that their vibrant works are steeped in traditional foundation; yet exude personal mastery of the Western medium.
The modern paintings in ink by Chua Ek Kay, Lim Tze Peng, Nai Swee Leng, Ling Yang Chang, Tung Yue Nang and Terence Teo are inspired by current art scene in modern times, with their Chinese ink paintings filled with hints of Western art elements in their masterpieces.
The exhibition also showcases virtuous watercolourists such as first generation master Lim Cheng Hoe, Ong Kim Seng and Low Puay Hua, who built an interest in the archaic medium amongst local artists from senior to young talents alike. The exhibition displays works that transport viewers into Singapore’s past and present rendered in crisp and refined colours and wash.
Masters from Three Generations is presented by Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery, which was established in 1989 with the aspiration to encourage artistic creations and art collection in Singapore. Over the years, it has become one of Singapore’s most prominent art galleries that discovers and hones young talents.
