The Select Centre is named after one of Asia’s most respected independent bookstores – Select Books – and aims to continue its social mission of promoting understanding of Singapore and Southeast Asia, and putting the region on the global literary and intellectual map.
Firmly rooted in Southeast Asia, its core mission is to advance the interflow of ideas and knowledge between different languages, cultures and disciplines through translation, adaptation and other forms of intercultural practice.
The Select Centre will be rolling out a full slate of programmes, including the Translators Lab, a innovative workshop translating Singapore writers; TranslateSingapore 2015, the first festival of its kind in Singapore; an Intercultural Residency; as well as a non-profit bookshop.
