Soldiering on with a commitment to social responsibility, Art Agenda, S.E.A. is pleased to announce the launch of our virtual exhibition, Nashar: Mencari Yang Samar (Looking for the Unknown), which tells a story within the comfort of home.
Our new online exhibition runs from 4 – 30 April 2020 and presents an immersive overview of Nashar’s life. Featuring a 3D virtual tour, rare archival material and artworks available for acquisition, the survey charts the development of Nashar’s art across three periods: from representation to abstraction in the 1970s and his return to figuration in the 1990s.
The selection provides a broader understanding of Nashar’s oeuvre by also including works from prominent figures in his artistic circle. With pieces by modern maestros Affandi and S.Sudjojono, as well as contemporaries such as Rusli, Oesman Effendi, Soeparto and more, the exhibition situates Nashar within the larger context of Indonesian modernism, and seeks out the impetus behind his poetic interpretations of the human condition.
