Vietnamese-born Danish conceptual artist Danh Vo will be creating a new outdoor work at the National Gallery Singapore. The exhibition is the first in the Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission series, which sees artists invited to create new works for the space.
The site-specific exhibition will be installed on the roof of the old City Hall building. A continuation of Vo’s existing practice, it will explore, via the artist’s own history, the broader issues of cross-cultural identity as well as cultural hierarchies. It will also be the first time the artist is presenting interactive work.
The installation is the first of the Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission as part of the Gallery’s Imagining Southeast Asia programme. The Roof Garden will feature annual site-specific commissions by leading artists that relate to the curatorial narratives of the museum’s collections and permanent exhibitions.
